Six Decluttering Tips

Commit to five mins of decluttering every day. No less and no more! It will help you build momentum.

Fill a bag to donate. Get a trash bag and fill it as fast as you can with donation items. Feel free to go to multiple rooms in order to fill a bag.

Keep track of what you don’t wear and then donate it. Face your hangers the wrong way and only switch them back when you wear that item. After a few months, eliminate the items you never switched.

The 12-12-12 challenge. Locate 12 items to throw away, 12 items to donate and 12 items to put away. This works great with kids at a smaller denomination.

Use a decluttering checklist. These are templated lists that can be found online and even be customized.

The four-bin method. Find a bin or box for each of the following labels; Trash, Donate, Keep, Relocate/Storage. For each room in your home, every single item needs to belong in one of those boxes, no matter how small or insignificant the item may seem. If it’s not a keep or seasonal storage/relocate item, consider it decluttered.
